Caleb Zackery Toliver was born on June 12, 1994, and raised in Houston, Texas, United States. Prior to the release of his solo singles, “Diva” and “I Gotta”, he lacked musical experience. His focus was on R&B and Trap in what he calls “Trap&B”. Growing up he cited Dom Kennedy as his musical influence. Also, he listened to Mike Jones and Big Mo. He took inspiration from the works of Bobby Womack, Pharrell, Travis Scott, Sade, and Teddy Pendegrass. Toliver’s father who was a rapper helped groomed his musical career, he would play music around him when growing up. 

Career Beginning

Toliver’s first project came out as a collaborative mixtape, titled Playa Familia with Yungjosh93. In 2017, He dropped ” Diva” and “I Gotta”, as solo singles. The following year, he landed on a record deal with Atlantic Records and We Run It Entertainment, together with Artist Partner Group. Previously, he had released ” Make Sumn” and “Checks”, alongside a music video. The same year, he dug out another single with a music video, titled ” Holdin Steel” featuring Dice Solo. Months later, Don Toliver came out with his first major debut mixtape, Donny Womack, and a music video for the song titled “Diamonds”. 

After the release of his major mixtape, he contributed a verse to his now label-boss Travis Scott’s 13th track, ” Can’t Say”, from his Astroworld studio album. He then signed a recording contract deal with the Cactus Jack imprint label, founded by Travis Scott. Don Toliver, Travis Scott, Nav, Sheck Wes, and Gunna were featured on the single “Champion” by Canadian rapper Nav. Three months to the close of the year, Toliver’s single “Diva” was remixed by Kevin Gates. 

Under Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack record label, he released several singles in 2019; “Back Up”(featuring Wiz Khalifa), ” Can’t Feel My Legs”, “Best You Had”, and ” No Idea”. The latter went viral on TikTok, giving him more recognition. In December 2019, Don Toliver released an official music video for “Can’t Feel My Legs”. The same month, Don Toliver and his record labelmates released a compilation album titled, JackBoys. Toliver, Travis Scott, and Luxury Tax featured on ” Gang Gang” songs by Wes, “Had Enough” by himself(Don Tolver) featuring Quavo and Offset, and “What To Do?” by Jackboys and Scott featuring Don Toliver.

In early 2020, he contributed a verse on “No Regrets” by Eminem, and released his debut studio album titled Heaven or Hell, on March 13. The album features guest appearances from label boss Travis Scott, Kaash Paige, Quavo, Offset, and Sheck Wes. Two months later, he hopped on Nav’s “Recap”. A collaborative single ” Cafeteria”(featuring Gunna) released on July 24, 2020. He followed up by releasing “Clap” as a soundtrack for the film F9. The Houston native together with Canadian rapper Nav contributed a verse on “Lemonade” by Internet Money and rapper Gunna. It song became his highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 and it peaked at #6 on the chart. He also got featured on a single by other artists including, “Grammy Week” by Kaash Paige, “Replace Me” by Nas (and Big Sean), and “Don’t Like Me” by Rico Nasty alongside Gucci Mane

In 2021, Don Toliver dropped the lead and second singles from his second studio album; “What You Need” and “Drugs N Hella Melodies” respectfully, with the latter featuring singer Kali Uchis. On August 20, Toliver, Skrillex, and Justin Bieber came out with a collaboration single “Don’t Go”. Days later, he was featured on ” Moon” with Kid Cudi by Kanye West. He released Life of a Don on October 8, 2021, and it includes features from Travis Scott, SoFaygo, Baby Keem, HVN, and others.
